HUNDREDS attended a special Daily Echo recruitment event focused on the opportunities available in the care industry.

The first Career in Care event was sponsored by Mploy Healthcare and held at Bournemouth’s Wessex Hotel.

Daily Echo key account manager Angela Boyer said: “Many companies were able to offer flexible working, full training and career progression, whilst others were seeking experienced staff or nurses.

“Hundreds of job seekers arrived during the day, including many people who were disenchanted with their current jobs and wanted a more rewarding career.

“In addition, a contingent of students from Bournemouth and Poole College who were studying health and social care came to discuss future job prospects. Many of the recruiters stated that they saw some key potential employees on the day, gave out lots of application packs and were very pleased with the event.

“With an ongoing demand for care industry staff in this area, plans are already in place for the next Career In Care event, with a date to be confirmed in the autumn.”

Anne Banks, healthcare director at sponsor Mploy Healthcare, said attendance had been good.

“There’s a massive demand for qualified and experienced health care assistants to work in this area because there’s a massive skills shortage at the moment,” she said.

She said flexibility was one of the advantages of a career in care. “We’ve got a lot of mums that work for us in term times only, or from 8am-2pm to fit in with the school run,” she added.

“They tell us when they’re available and we place them out to work.”
