Management Accounts Assistant

Main Purpose

To provide specific management accounting support to the various business services.

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • To provide specific management accounting support to the various business sectors; Contracting, After Sales and Distribution:
    • Project appraisal and service contract profitability
    • Work-in-progress schedules
    • Customer invoicing for contracting and distribution, query handling and management of customer retentions
    • Order book reporting
    • Ad hoc analysis
  • To assist with the preparation of the monthly management accounts, including reports, supporting schedules, accruals and prepayments, journals and reconciliations as required.
  • Production of overhead reports by cost centre and liaising with cost centre managers to manage expenditure in line with budgets
  • To assist in the year-end audit
  • Monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations
  • Office for National Statistics returns
  • To become familiar with all aspects of the accounting function so as to be able, after an appropriate period, to deputise in the absence of the Management Accountant.

Skills & Competencies

  • Previous management accounts experience is essential
  • AAT qualified or equivalent is desirable
  • Excellent working knowledge of common IT software (Word, Excel, Email)
  • SAP usage desirable
  • Project appraisal and WIP management desirable
  • Ability to assimilate and communicate complex information
  • Excellent numeracy skills
  • Team player
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral with the ability to convey financial principles to non-finance managers
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, maintain accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with key stakeholders
  • Willingness to work outside normal hours when required
  • Occasional travel to other offices
